Ok, two questions today... These are both pretty easy

Just in case no one knows..... I hate BINDING!  To me it is a chore. I have a quilt on my bed that never got bound. I love the quilt and it has been on my bed for 10 years at least... unbound.  It is under this quilt, (which come to think of it, isn't bound either!).

And they both are under this quilt... which is bound now, but not in this picture LOL!!!!

So... since you can't see them, it doesn't really matter if its bound or not... Right?

Here's the questions...

A) Do you press your quilt binding away from your quilt before you stitch it down in the back?

  1. Yes.
  2. No.
  3. HUH???
B) Your ready to sew down your binding and the seam allowance doesn't fill it. Do you...
  1. Make the binding wider at the back
  2. Take it apart and re-sew using a larger seam allowance.
  3. That never happens to me... it is perfect every time!
  4. Who cares!

I do not press...and I just make it look even as possible on the front, without worrying much about the width on the back. I often use the same backing fabric for the binding, and thet way it doesn't really matter.

A. No
B. I prefer to have a little more at the back anyway, so am happiest with 2.5 inch binding strips.

Binding is one of my favourite parts of making a quilt! I love the time spent looking at my quilt as that next-to-last step is done.
I do press my binding away on the front. If it isn't quite full, I add some batting as I stitch it down on the back.

I press that binding like crazy before I sew, also try to get the proper fold kinked into the corners - I love the binding step AND I love ironing, so it's a win-win.

As for the second question, I don't quite understand, are you saying if it doesn't cover around to the back over the seam? If that's the case, I trim a little bit more of the bulk out verrrry carefully with the rotary cutter and try again, and stretch with the fingers as I generally sew binding down by hand.

a) I never press my binding away from the quilt.

b) I sew my binding by hand, so I simply make it wider at the back.
